Phnom Penh, March 27, 2024 - The Japanese government has allocated over $850,000 in grant assistance to two notable organizations in Cambodia, aiming to improve the quality of life for Cambodians and foster deeper ties between Japan and Cambodia.

During a ceremony held on March 25, Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia UENO Atsushi, alongside representatives from the Golden of Heart (HoG) and the Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR Japan), formalized the grants through the signing of contracts.

A substantial portion of the grant, amounting to $553,969, is dedicated to HoG's ambitious 'Project on Developing 4-year Quality Physical Education Teacher Education University through Utilising ICT' (Year 2). Meanwhile, AAR Japan will receive $300,987 to enhance employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. This will be achieved by improving facilities at the Women’s Development Centre and strengthening community networks in Kandal province.

Ambassador UENO shared his optimism that these grants would not only elevate living standards within the project areas but also solidify the bond of friendship between Japan and Cambodia.

Initiated in 2002, the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects aims to back Japanese NGOs in their efforts to contribute to Cambodia’s post-conflict reconstruction and ongoing development at the grassroots level. Since its inception, Japan has supported 160 projects across Cambodia, focusing on crucial areas such as primary education, health, agriculture, and mine clearance.
